Move That Blog – Installation
To install and use Move That Blog on your system, follow the easy instructions below:
Step 1: Download and install the plugin on both blogs
Once you’ve signed up, you will find the plugin download link in your dashboard. You can find more information about how to install and manage plugins here. Download, install, and activate the plugin onto both the current blog and the new blog.
Step 2: Set up the receiving blog
On your dashboard, you’ll find your API keys. Choose an unlocked key pair and enter the public and private key into the new blog which will be receiving data (the new settings page is under Tools -> Move That Blog. Then click “Save Changes” to verify the API key. Finally, choose “Receiving” under Start a Transfer for this blog’s role.
Step 3: Set up the sending blog
On your current blog, enter the same API key pair under Tools -> Move That Blog, and set this blog up as the sender. When you click Set Up, you should see your various transfer options as well as the name of your receiving blog in the “Send To” list.
Enter your WordPress username and password for the new (receiving) blog, and your FTP information if you want to transfer your theme and plugin files.
Finally, click the Start Transfer button to move the necessary files.
Step 4: Reset your password
Our plugin will move all of your users from the current blog to the new blog. Unfortunately, this requires that you reset the password on the administrative user you were using to do the transfer. Our plugin will automatically send you a password reset e-mail after the transfer is complete.
Notes
- Your WordPress or FTP account information is never sent to our servers. Our plugin calls home only to coordinate the sending and receiving blogs and to make them play nicely together.
- Our plugin will transfer all of your users to your new blog, and will move your current blogs’s wp-config.php file over (replacing the current database information with the new). This is why the password reset is required.
